Nairobi National Park

Experience wildlife at the edge of a bustling metropolis

Park Overview

Africa's only wildlife capital park

Nairobi National Park is a unique ecosystem by being the only protected area in the world close to a capital city. The park is located only 7 km from Nairobi city center with a major highway running along its eastern boundary.

Established in 1946, it was Kenya's first national park and covers an area of 117 square kilometers. Despite its proximity to civilization and relative small size for an African national park, it boasts a large and varied wildlife population.

The park has a diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. Attractions include the Ivory Burning Site Monument, Nairobi Safari Walk, the Orphanage and walking trails at hippo pools.
